Legacy Project – Sheppard Pratt Health Systems

08.14.2020

Founded in 1853 by Moses Sheppard, the Sheppard Asylum, now known as Sheppard Pratt Health System (SPHS) is one of the oldest private psychiatric hospitals in the nation.  On December 6, 1891, the Sheppard Asylum opened its doors, in Towson, MD, on a 340-acre campus.  In the mid-1980’s Daft-McCune-Walker (DMW) began providing Master Planning services to SPHS for their Towson Campus.   Over the last thirty (30) years, through our full complement of services, DMW has been assisting the SPHS through numerous expansions, additions, and campus improvements not only at the Towson Campus but at numerous SPHS owned and managed facilities all over the State of Maryland.  DMW is proud to be part of their newest expansion of a new Howard County Elkridge, MD campus featuring an 85-bed state of the art behavioral health facility scheduled to open in February 2021.  DMW has provided expert land-planning, surveying, engineering, landscape architecture and environmental compliance services to assist SPHS to continue the vision of Moses Sheppard over 150 years ago which was to provide courteous treatment and comfort for all patients to change lives for the better.  Drive to their Towson or Elkridge campuses and see DMW’s designs of the latest improvements being constructed as we once again keep our promise to design, develop, and deliver successful outcomes.
